On October 4th, 2021, the University of Economics And Law and The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Southeast Asia organized the international virtual conference on Feminism, Gender and Law via online platform. The conference was actually  a forum created for scholars, specialists, policymakers, and other engaging participants in feminist legal theory and relevant areas to disseminate their research results, exchange ideas, share experience and meet with the world-leading speakers.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, the conference was held online to ensure anti-epidemic measures. Speakers from research institutes and universities nationwide will participate in two panel discussions on “Gender equality legislation” and “Access to Feminist Legal Theory”.   According to Assoc. Prof. Le Vu Nam – Vice rector of the UEL, the seminar "Feminist legal theory" is within a series of activities of the "Introduction of Feminist Legal Theory" project,  which is co-organized by the University of Economics and Law (UEL) and  Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung southeast Asia organization. The seminar is the initial step of this project which attempts to encourage and support scientists, particularly young scientists who are interested in interdisciplinary and outlook-on-life-related research. Also, the seminar serves as a preparation step for an international conference on “Feminism, Gender, and Law”, which will be held in two formats, face-to-face and online, in October 2021 at UEL campus.

The Feminist Legal Theory does not just reflect issues of gender equality or defending women's rights but is also a cognitive conclusion concerning the role and view of women in law implementation and enforcement. In order to explain the feminist theory, jurisprudence researchers explore different fields of law through women's perceptions and address the issue of whether the conceptions and norms of the patriarchal ideology are being incorporated into law or not. Delving into the framework of law, the subject of the right balance between men and women will go one step further and contribute to promoting social justice.

On sharing about the "Introduction of the feminist legal theory” project,  Philip Degenhardt – director of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Southeast Asia regional organization, assumed that this was the first project of legal theory in Vietnam. The project attempts to improve social justice regarding gender issues by applying the feminist legal idea to Vietnamese law. In the long term, the application of feminist legal theory will have a considerable impact on law universities, lawyers, legislators and other policymakers. Additionally, representatives from the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Southeast Asia Organization anticipated that the UEL would be the first university in Southeast Asia to integrate this subject into the undergraduate and postgraduate training programs.

As a research-oriented institution, the UEL strives to establish an open and diverse academic environment for its faculty, researchers, and students. Accordingly, the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Foundation and the UEL’s s collaboration aims to share the network of experts and representative offices of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Foundation around the world and to promote the implementation of projects in the fields of law, economics, and management in the future. Since then, the "Introduction to Feminist Legal Theory" project has been inspired by Rosa Luxemburg-a German revolutionary socialist and feminist

The seminar "Feminist Legal Theory" is a forum for experts and interested participants to discuss opportunities and challenges in understanding and applying theory in research activities along with the research's findings under feminism’s perspective. Eminent and highly specialized scholars share and discuss their findings with young scholars in order to encourage the publication of high-quality research papers with practical implications.
