Mid-term review of pursea project activities "University governance innovation in Southeast Asia"

From 30/11 to 2/12/2022, Vice Rector Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, coordinator of the University Governance Innovation Project in Southeast Asia (PURSEA) participated in the mid-term evaluation meeting of the project's activities at the University of Technology - University of Da Nang. Erasmus+ PURSEA project is a capacity-building project for universities supported by the European Union with the participation of 16 universities and research centers including 8 Asian schools.

The meetings combined training in Da Nang for 3 different objectives: reporting on the activities performed by The Work Package No. 6 (WP6), compiling the Project's Manual, and training the project's financial activities. This is an opportunity for schools implementing the project to report on the progress of implementing action plans, difficulties encountered and discuss solutions.

The conference was attended by Associate Professor Ph.D. Doan Quang Vinh - Principal of the University of Technology - University of Da Nang and Mr. Le Van Hinh - Head of Department of Cooperation and Development of the University of Economics and Law and coordinators of 13 out of 16 schools participating in the project.

Speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Quang Vinh - Rector of the University said that the University of Technology - University of Da Nang is honored to be the organizer of the mid-term session for the purpose of evaluating the progress of implementing activities in this work package No. 06. This is one of the many activities of the project "University Governance Innovation in Southeast Asia" - PURSEA. He thanked the European Union for funding Erasmus+ projects to strengthen the capacity of universities, Hanoi University for taking on the responsibility as project coordinator, Francophone University Foundation for supporting the writing of the project from the initial stage as well as experts from France, Belgium, Germany, and Cambodia have contributed to the success of the project.

Participating in the project "University Governance Innovation in Southeast Asia" is one of the great opportunities for the Hanoi University of Architecture. Since 2020, the school has sent staff at the school's strategic level to participate in the project. It is this team that has been the core force to build the school's strategy for the period 2021-2030, vision 2045. Based on the results of work packages No. 02, 03, 04, and 05, the University has developed a priority action strategy within the framework of work package No. 06, focusing on the development of scientific research activities, building a team of lecturers and researchers with research capacity, equipped with facilities and equipment to fully serve the needs of scientific research development of the University.

Overview of the meeting

It is known that the PURSEA Project has the main purpose of strengthening the university governance capacity of 8 higher education institutions in Southeast Asia by supporting the development and implementation of strategic development planning of each school, suitable to the context and characteristics of each school.

The project's partners will cooperate in researching, exchanging, and building governance models from the stage of strategic development planning to the development and implementation of action plans in accordance with the characteristics of each university.

Delegates to the meeting

Specifically, the project will support member schools to implement activities to achieve the following goals:

1) Develop necessary methods and tools to enhance development strategy planning capacity and develop action plans for each higher education institution that is a member of the project, suitable to the context of the country, region and characteristics of each university.

2) Implement a school priority action plan as well as solutions to govern and support change at each school.

Results to be achieved:

- A priority action plan is put into place.

- Total solutions for governance and management as well as supporting change.

3) Develop tools that enable gathering, sharing, and consulting, supporting strategic planning as well as supporting the process of changing the governance and management model of higher education institutions.
